You Cannot Accurately Define Internet Marketing Without Consumer Interaction
I am often asked to define internet marketing. I follow it up with my own question, Have you ever purchased anything online and what prompted you to do so?
By attaining interaction with them effective Internet Marketing engages the consumer.
Anyone who has a computer and an internet connection has experienced Internet Marketing if they?ve seen products or services advertised and promoted online. Since online business can be done globally and in many cases 24/7 the annual growth of internet marketing and sales is tremendous.
Internet marketing is highly successful because it involves the consumer and uses so many mediums to reach such a huge market almost instantaneously. The businesses that have mastered this are those that are surviving and thriving even in slow economic times.
There are numeruos business models being used on the internet. It is known as e-commerce when things are sold directly to consumers. Businesses that utilize this model have been able to expand their business exponentially without having to spend much money (relatively speaking) to do so.
To define internet marketing one must also include the publishing aspect. This model includes the sale of advertising online. Many magazines and newspapers have now limited their product to being distributed strictly online. This is very cheap yet effective.
Affiliate marketing is another business model that has transformed ecommerce. It is a win/win for both the supplier and seller of the product. Many people have become millionaires from this business model. The top earning category for affiliate marketers online is eBooks, another form of inexpensive publishing.
The advantages of internet marketing over traditional practices are many. Businesses can reach their targeted audience (and a bigger audience) faster and cheaper. Through targeted email marketing businesses can directly promote to customers (and not have to wait for them to come into a retail store).
Consumers can shop from home at their own leisure making it an efficient and effective way to purchase products. Because of this businesses have the advantage of developing targeted advertising campaigns that produce better results.
Perhaps the best result of internet marketing for businesses is that they can build a data base of customers and gain a thorough understanding of shopping and buying patterns and tendencies. Most all aspects of internet marketing can be trace and measured. That enables business to zero in quickly on what they are doing right and what needs changed.
These results can be obtained and measured immediately because most online marketing processes are set up requiring viewers to perform some type of targeted action. These may be as simple as clicking on a link or filling out a drop down subscription form for free information or products.
This type of interaction with the consumer cannot be attained through a newspaper, radio or TV. Once a company has the precious customer contact info they can then begin targeted email advertising.
