Mountain Gear President Paul Fish announced today a unique opportunity to purchase a piece of history this holiday season. Mountain Gear is selling a rare print commemorating the 50th anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary?s first ascent of Everest in 1953.

?We are selling an extremely rare photo of Tenzing Norgay on the first ascent of Everest, taken and signed by Sir Edmund Hillary himself,? Fish said. In 2003, the Royal Geographical Society allowed access to the original negative stored in its archives. Only ten prints were created. Fish is selling the last of the ten still available. ?These were finished by hand to the highest standards,? Fish said. The print is numbered and includes a certificate of authenticity from the Royal Geographical Society. ?This will make a unique and cherished gift.?

Fish also announced two collaborations with artists that will allow customers to combine their love of the outdoors with their love of fine art. Fish commissioned watercolor and ink artist Jeremy Collins to produce a series of signed, numbered, and watermarked prints. Collins is an artist with an impressive resume of first ascents. His prints convey a passion for vertical perspectives and remote locales. Fish is also proud to announce that the proceeds of the first print of each 25-print run will be donated to the Access Fund.

Mountain Gear has also forged a partnership with sculptor Mason McCuddin. ?His work capture the essence of outdoor adventure,? Fish said. McCuddin?s pieces immortalize that last ski run, an epic climb, or the simple joy of a bike ride. Mason said he will also take on commissioned work for Mountain Gear customers, a service that is available through Mountain Gear?s website.
